Alabama based artist Rachel Wright is a self-professed biophiliac: she has a love of living things and the natural world.  She is fascinated by the patterns that can be found in butterfly and moth wings, how tree branches grow in a predictable mathematical formation, and the organic pattern of craters found on the moon. Though she has worked in a number of different materials, such as wax, cast iron, and textiles, her current artistic practice is focused on glass. This magical material goes through a radical transformation, much like a butterfly. She often incorporates colors and precious metals in her glass pieces that change after being subjected to heat. Rachel loves to share her passion with students and teaches workshops in addition to teaching at the University of South Alabama.
